Q: What major projects are being worked on by NCA?
A: NCA, with input from the community and businesses in the Northlake area, has completed the 1st project recommended in the Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) plan. This project is the Lavista Rd. Streetscape Project. This $3.1 million project was funded by Ga DOT, ARC, and DeKalb County. It started in the fall of 2007 and was completed in July, 2008. (See Schedule and Plans in Downloads Section of this website). Phase 2 has been funded with a Transportation Enhancement Grant ($475,000) and MARTA refund (to ARC) money. Engineering (funded by DeKalb County) for the entire project has been completed and right-of-way acquisition is now underway.  Construction is expected to begin by early, 2013.  Streets involved are: Mall side from Lavista along Briarcliff Rd.and Henderson Mill Rd. to Northlake Parkway,  Northlake Parkway to Parklake Dr.   Northlake Parkway to Lavista Rd.  Ranchwood Rd north of Lavista. There are other projects in the vicinity that will be planned for and, depending upon funding, will be undertaken. All new development and major redevelopment projects will be required to put in place the same required streetscape amenities as completed on Lavista Rd.

NCA recently completed a “Northlake Compatible Use Overlay Zoning District” with Dekalb County Planning Staff. This Ordinance establishes permitted uses and development standards to encourage new high quality development. It was adopted by the Dekalb County Board of Commissioners on May 20, 2008.

NCA is working with the business community to increase support for creation of a  Community Improvement District (CID) or a Tax Allocation District (TAD).
